Cyber Security

Everything you wanted to know about the Security+ SY0-601 but were afraid to ask!

April 20, 2020

CompTIA Security+ is the top cyber security certification. Security+ certification is in high demand and continues to serve as a fundamental certification for professionals starting an IT career or others wanting to build a career in cyber security. On top of that, Security+ certification is also approved by the Department of Defense (DoD) to meet Directive 8570.01 -M requirements. If you’re seeking employment in the government, then it is a required certification. CompTIA Security+ SY0-501 is the current Security+ exam and will be available to take until the Spring of 2021. However, the Security+ SY0-601 is scheduled to be released in October of 2020. If you’re an IT security professional and you’re trying to decide which certification is best for you or if you’re just looking to learn more about each exam, check out the information below:

Which exam should you take?

Professionals should decide to take each exam based on their individual needs and timeline. Both exams will teach you how to recognize and manage security threats, but if you’re ready right now SY0-501 is the only exam available until October.

If you can wait until October, the SY0-601 will include updates based on the nature of the current cyber security environment and issues that cyber security professionals are battling today. If you decide to prepare for SY0-601 make sure that your exam preparation is appropriate to that exam!
